Summary
Pension Ametyst sits on Latrán, the oldest street in Český Krumlov, on the castle side of the Vltava. It is small — eight rooms — family-run, and built around a private wellness suite that you book by the slot rather than share with the rest of the guests. The headline draws are the wellness, the garden (which looks straight up at the castle tower), and a breakfast that adapts to almost any dietary preference.
On Booking, recent guest scores sit around 9.2 / 10. On TripAdvisor it's similarly well-reviewed. The objective measures of quality are in line with the editorial recommendation.
What's good, what's not
What's good
- The wellness suite. Sauna, infrared sauna, whirlpool — private, booked by the slot. Most Latrán pensions at this price don't have anything similar.
- Latrán 72 is a quiet address. Latrán is the calmer side of the centre, and number 72 is past most of the bar noise.
- The garden. The castle tower view from the garden is the kind of thing every guidebook photo is trying to be.
- Breakfast flexibility. Continental, English, vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose-free or vegan, served in your room or in the garden. We've not seen another small property in Krumlov do this.
- Small. Eight rooms means the family running it actually knows their guests. You won't be processed.
What's not
- It's small. Eight rooms means it books out early. If you're not booking 4+ weeks ahead for summer, check availability before you commit to dates.
- Parking is limited. Confirm a space at the time of booking, or budget for one of the public lots (P1 or P2 are 5–10 minutes away).
- Not for travellers who want a 24-hour front desk. Family-run means the people running it have evenings. If you're arriving at 23:00, communicate that ahead of time.
- Latrán cobblestones are loud. Hard-case luggage will make a scene at 07:00. (This is true of most of central Krumlov.)
Who it suits
Couples on a wellness-leaning weekend. The private sauna / whirlpool combo is the differentiator and works best for two.
Travellers with dietary needs. The breakfast flexibility makes life noticeably easier than the standard pension buffet.
Anyone who values "small and well-run" over "polished and impersonal." If you want a 4-star hotel feel with a 24-hour reception, look at Hotel OLDINN on the main square instead.
Less ideal for: groups bigger than 4 (limited capacity), last-minute bookers in high season (books out), travellers who prioritise being on the main square (this is Latrán, not Náměstí Svornosti — close, but not the same).

Book it
We've put the Booking.com link below — it's an affiliate link, and we earn a commission on completed stays, exactly as we do for every other property on this site. As above, the property is co-owned by a krumlov.org founder; the editorial bar we're applying to this listing is higher than for non-affiliated properties, not lower.

Where exactly in Český Krumlov is Pension Ametyst?
Latrán 72 — on the castle side of the river, around the corner from the Minorite Monastery. From the front door it's a few minutes' walk to the Lazebnický bridge into the Inner Town, and roughly five minutes to the castle entrance.
How many rooms does it have?
Eight rooms across standard, deluxe, and premium tiers. Some include a kitchenette, suiting longer stays or families who'd rather make their own breakfast. Being small, it books out early in the high season — three to six weeks ahead for summer Saturdays.
What's the wellness offering?
A private sauna, an infrared sauna and a whirlpool, bookable for individual or couple's use rather than shared with all guests. It's a meaningful differentiator at this price tier — most Latrán pensions in this range don't have any wellness facilities.
Is breakfast included?
Yes. It's tailored to what you eat — there are continental, English, vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan options, and you can have it in the garden or in your room. This is one of the more flexible breakfast setups we've seen in town.
Can I park there?
Limited on-site parking; check at the time of booking. Otherwise the closest public lots are P1 (Jelení zahrada) and P2 (Pod poštou), both within a 5–10 minute walk.
How does this compare to your other picks on /where-to-stay?
It's a fourth pick we've added at the value-Latrán tier specifically to give you the option. It is more expensive than Hotel Barbakán (our existing best-value pick) but adds the wellness suite and a Latrán address. Hotel Růže is a different class of property entirely, and Hotel OLDINN is on the main square rather than in Latrán — different trade-offs.
